baton rouge, la. – power restoration for all customers who can take it should conclude by late tonight for those affected by monday's violent storms. restoration for the hard-hit sections of baton rouge and labadieville will extend to tomorrow.
as of 3:30 p.m. wednesday, power had been restored to approximately 154,000 of the 176,000 louisiana customers who lost electricity due to the storms.
the national weather service confirmed that five locations in the state were hit by tornadoes in jefferson, assumption, lafourche and st. charles parishes.
"we continue finding damage to our facilities even as we restore service," said dennis dawsey, vice president of customer service. "we also relocate our crews to the heavily damaged areas as they complete restoration elsewhere. this concentrates our workforce to help speed up restoration for those still without power."
customers are reminded to stay a safe distance away from active work zones and restoration workers on the job. the company's first priority is the safety of the public and our emergency workers.
