epa recognizes entergy new orleans as 2014 energy star® partner of the year in energy smart's energy efficiency program deliver
entergy earns award for protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency initiatives
new orleans, la. – the u.s. environmental protection agency (epa) named entergy new orleans a 2014 energy star partner of the year award recipient for its outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by providing energy efficiency education and programs to its customers. entergy’s accomplishments will be recognized in washington, d.c. on april 29, 2014.
entergy new orleans and the new orleans city council, energy star partners since 2011 through the energy smart program, are being honored for their work to increase market share of energy star qualified products and services through comprehensive outreach, education and marketing programs. the energy smart program was developed by the new orleans city council, is administered by entergy new orleans and is implemented by clearesult.
the home performance with energy star (hpwes) program is a comprehensive, whole-house approach to improving energy efficiency that can provide a homeowner up to $5,000 in incentives for home energy improvements. participating contractors, an integral part of this program, conduct on-site home performance assessments that evaluate air and duct leakage, insulation levels, potential moisture problems, and age and condition of a home’s water heater, doors and windows and appliances. after each assessment, the contractor provides a set of recommended improvement projects that will maximize home energy savings.
thanks to local partnerships and the support of the city council, entergy new orleans and clearesult, the successful integration of the hpwes program into the existing energy smart program positively impacted the adoption of energy efficiency in this emerging market. program participants have earned over $900k in incentive dollars and reduced energy consumption by 3,600,000 kwh – equivalent to keeping 2,500 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions out of the atmosphere.
“entergy is dedicated to our partnership with energy star,” said charles l. rice, jr., president and chief executive officer of entergy new orleans. “through energy smart’s home performance with energy star program, we are helping our customers learn more about energy efficiency, saving energy and money.”
through 2013, with help from energy star, american families and businesses have saved $297 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 2.1 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
“entergy new orleans sets a high standard for organizations across the country that deliver energy efficiency and environmental programs,” said epa deputy administrator bob perciasepe. “through hpwes, they are demonstrating how americans can save money and energy while protecting the environment and fighting climate change.”
the 2014 partner of the year awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy efficiency. award winners are selected from the 16,000 organizations that participate in the energy star program.
