entergy charitable foundation awards $138,000 to mississippi nonprofits

jackson, miss. – the entergy charitable foundation recently awarded $138,000 in grants to boost local education, expand environmental programs and help create poverty solutions in communities served by entergy mississippi. the grants bring the total awarded to nonprofits in all entergy service areas by entergy shareholders to more than $15 million in 2014, including $2.6 million from the entergy charitable foundation.
local awards included:
· a. w. watson elementary school (port gibson), port gibson middle school and port gibson high school--$10,000 each for library resources
· alcorn state university foundation, inc.--$50,000 for continuation of a collaboration with entergy through student scholarships, training and research
· christian volunteer service, inc. (port gibson)--$2,000 for emergency family services
· jackson zoological park--$5,000 for the wild learning project
· magnolia speech school (jackson)--$1,500 for a literacy program for children who are deaf, hard of hearing and/or language disordered
· mississippi museum of natural science--$10,000 for nature express education program
· mississippi valley state university--$2,500 for scholarship donations and financial aid
· mississippi fish and wildlife foundation--$5,000 for the sky lake boardwalk , nominated for a national trails award for its scenic, cultural, ecological and scientific values
· new stage, inc. (jackson)--$5,000 for new stage arts in education, which helps teachers integrate the arts into daily classroom activities and learning
· partners in development, inc.--$1,500 for the glendora library and learning center
· solid foundation community development corporation (tunica)--$500 for development initiatives for at-risk youth.
· tougaloo college--$25,000 for a scholarship initiative to build a stem pipeline

entergy charitable foundation grants are offered annually by the foundation through two award cycles. the deadline for grant applications for the first cycle in 2015 is february 1. applications and additional information are available at entergy.com.
