motorists urged to drive cautiously work areas
beaumont, texas -- one of beaumont's busiest streets is the latest target in entergy texas, inc.'s ongoing efforts to keep service reliable by managing vegetation in and around power lines.
the third and most recent project of 2015 is set to begin this week when contractors will begin trimming back vegetation form a 16-mile long power line that originates from the lindbergh substation on lindbergh drive.
the line serves nearly 1,700 customers in a business and residential area along college west to major drive, north on langham to calder avenue and phelan boulevard and also provides electricity to homes between parsons and belvedere streets south of a major drainage ditch. work is expected to take about two months to complete.
although most of the work will be done by workers in bucket trucks, some 35 percent of it will be manual, making it very important for drivers to be aware and take caution when approaching targeted areas.
"all of our power lines, whether in densely populated cities or along rural county roads, are on a regular maintenance schedule," said pam williams, customer service representative for the area. "it's an example of how we invest in our system to reduce outages and help ensure a safe, reliable supply of power to our customers."
entergy texas invests about $7 million per year in its vegetation management program, trimming an average of 2,000 line miles annually.
