beaumont, texas – a new vegetation management project will begin in south beaumont even as workers are on the other side of town trimming vegetation away from power lines in the major and phelan drives area.
the new project is set to start the week of feb. 9 and will involve a 26-mile-long power line originating from the neches substation on gulf states road. the line serves 1,071 customers in an area bounded by avenue a to the west, buford street and the port of beaumont on the north and near lamar university to the south.
work is expected to take about a month to complete, depending on weather, and will include the use of aerial bucket trucks as well as manual trimming. those driving in the area are urged to be alert for workers and to use caution.
“it’s all about reliability,” said pam williams, customer service representative for the area. “trees can grow into and fall into lines, brush and vines can also cause problems that may result in outages. keeping our lines on a regular schedule of maintenance is an important part of the preventative measures we take.”
