$118,500 in grants help build stronger communities in arkansas

entergy charitable foundation is accepting new grant requests through feb. 1
little rock, ark. – families in arkansas struggling with food insecurity are among the beneficiaries of the entergy charitable foundation’s second round of grants awarded in 2016. grants to the arkansas foodbank and 20 other nonprofit organizations in communities served by entergy arkansas, inc. totaled $118,500. the network distributes food to needy families in 38 counties.
requests for funding through the entergy charitable foundation are reviewed twice annually. paired with awards made in the first round of funding last year, foundation giving in arkansas communities totaled more than $210,000 in 2016. applications for the foundation’s next grant award cycle can be submitted at “our community” at entergy.com through feb. 1.
“charitable contributions are among the most important ways we power life in our communities by expanding resources and services for those who need it most,” said oscar washington, vice president of customer service for entergy arkansas, inc. “employees and retirees also contribute to our efforts by volunteering for charitable organizations in ways that support our mission to add value to the communities we serve.”
arkansas programs supported in the second round of 2016 entergy charitable foundation grants are:
- central arkansas development council's 2016 low-income advocates leadership and community development conference
- brandon burlsworth foundation's "eyes of a champion" program to provide free eye exams and glasses to low-income pre-k through grade 12 students
- kipp delta's "literacy for all" program
- garland county imagination library's "books for babies" family-literacy initiative
- project hope food bank's food subsidy program
- consolidated youth services' "empowering youth through reading" program
- arkansas advocates for children & families anti-poverty initiatives
- arkansas foodbank united to fight hunger program
- camp aldersgate weekend camps for individuals with special needs
- carti foundation's program to provide housing for cancer patients
- center for women in transition's re-entry services for recently incarcerated women
- centers for youth and families' behavior intervention training for foster families
- literacy action of central arkansas's local community partner organization program
- operation warm project to provide coats to low-income children in little rock
- philander smith college scholarships for underserved students
- recycle bikes for kids' "pathway out of poverty" program for adults
- urban league of the state of arkansas' low-income health-insurance initiative
- legacy academic mentoring program's technology update initiative
- university of arkansas winthrop rockefeller center's "uncommon communities" economic- and community-development initiative
- independent college fund of arkansas' first generation scholarship project
- friendship community care's project tech for disabled college students

each year entergy shareholders award approximately $16 million to local nonprofits through various grant programs. entergy charitable foundation grants focus on education, poverty solutions and environmental programs that improve the quality of life in communities served by entergy. in 2016, more than $2.8 million was contributed through the program. in addition, across the utility’s four-state service territory, entergy employees engaged in more than 100,400 hours of volunteer service last year valued at more than $3 million.
