"by strengthening our system, we’re making sure residents have dependable electricity, particularly during the irrigation season. our upgrades will minimize power disruptions, which can be costly to our customers and have a significant impact on crop productivity."

with the growing need to maintain reliability as energy demand increases, entergy arkansas is making key strategic investments across the state. creating a stronger power grid is crucial for the growing electrical demands in the harrisburg area, where agriculture serves as one of the major focuses of the local economy. local farmers have expressed relief and appreciation for the commitment entergy arkansas has made in addressing these infrastructure needs, recognizing the importance of uninterrupted electricity in maintaining successful and sustainable agricultural practices.

“we are grateful to the city of harrisburg, other utilities in the area, residents, businesses and farmers for their patience as we have spent the year working together to build a stronger network and stronger community,” said rial.

residents in the area should begin seeing the benefits immediately as a result of these new upgrades providing reliable, efficient and innovative energy solutions. the project is expected to have long-term benefits for the harrisburg community, developing stability for years to come.
entergy arkansas and the little rock international association of fire fighters (iaff) local 34 have come together to provide winter coats to elementary school students for “operation warm.” through this partnership, hundreds of students in the little rock school district received new coats wednesday, just before the students’ winter break begins.

operation warm is a national nonprofit that manufactures high-quality coats and shoes for children in need. the coats are designed and manufactured by the nonprofit to be long-wearing, water repellent and machine washable, with a warm fleece lining, deep pockets to keep little hands warm even without gloves, and detachable hoods. they come in sizes 2t to adult. since 1998, the organization has provided more than 6 million coats to kids in need across the united states.

the iaff union 34 began working with the national nonprofit several years ago after seeing a group of young children shivering at a school bus stop near their firehouse.

“helping people is our job, but it’s also part of who we are,” said iaff union 34 president matthew stallings. “we work year-round to support this program, and the last few weeks have been a concerted effort with entergy and the little rock school district to determine the needs of the students and organize the coats for distribution. it’s worth any effort, though, to see those smiling faces as we do what we can to help children in our community weather the cold.”

with the support of a $10,000 grant from entergy arkansas and payroll-deduction contributions from members of iaff local 34, firefighters purchased 800 new coats for children at western hills and carver steam magnet elementaries, as well as romine early childhood center.

“since 2015, nearly 6,000 students across the little rock school district have benefited from the generosity of union 34 firefighters and entergy, said lrsd superintendent jermall wright. “we are deeply grateful for their continued dedication and investment in our community. their support is not just a donation, but a demonstration of the vital role community partnerships play in our mission to impact the lives of our students.”

“entergy arkansas works with community partners year-round and across the state to better our communities through grants and volunteerism, and this event is the ultimate example of our commitment to “power life” in every community we serve,” said laura landreaux, entergy arkansas president and ceo. “we are grateful to the little rock fire fighters union 34 members who spearhead the effort with individual donations and coordinate the logistics of the coat donations and delivery. helping meet the needs of children in this way is both an honor and a joy.”
18 dec 2024 13:58:00 -0600entergy arkansas announces hazmat response grant for lake catherine and hamilton
positive downstream effects expected on ouachita river

little rock, ark. – entergy has awarded more than $160,000 to lake hamilton fire & rescue (lhfr) for an environmental grant that will allow the department to contain and cleanup future hazmat incidents on lake hamilton and lake catherine while mitigating spill over from remmel dam into the ouachita river.

lhfr used the grant to purchase a rescue and response boat, absorbent booms, diving equipment and other hazmat materials and supplies. some of the materials, most notably the boat, provided the backdrop to today’s announcement event where entergy arkansas senior plant manager braxton bennett and lhfr chief doug davey both spoke about the grant that is already having an impact on the popular central arkansas lakes.

“most of our calls for service on the water require some sort of hazmat mitigation,” said davey. “recently, we deployed oil booms and mats to contain and soak up fluids from a front-end loader that rolled into lake catherine. last year, there was large oil sheen on lake hamilton that no near-by agency could mitigate due to a lack of resources. however, through entergy’s generosity, we are now equipped to handle water cleanups and will be able to help preserve and maintain our beautiful lakes for years to come.”

lhfr, established in 1958, is the sole emergency fireboat response unit stationed on the 7,460-acred lake hamilton and the 1,940-acred lake catherine. an entergy arkansas employee who lives in the lhfr’s response territory and was aware that the department lacked the resources to handle hazmat incidents encouraged davey to apply for the grant through lhfr’s foundation.

“not only are lake hamilton and catherine beautiful destinations for tourists, but they are practically in the backyards of many entergy arkansas employees. a local employee recognized a need in their community and helped identify a solution,” said entergy arkansas ceo and president laura landreaux. “by investing in the communities where we live and work, we are investing in the quality of life in arkansas and in this situation, helping maintain the beauty of some of its destination waterways.

according to census records, more than 2,031 residents live on lake hamilton and 320 on lake catherine – additionally home to lake catherine state park. an estimated 6-million tourists visit hot springs alone every year, with the surrounding lakes being popular destinations.

this grant award is based on the organization’s alignment with entergy's environmental initiatives fund philanthropic focus on environmental stewardship. by providing support through grants like these, entergy arkansas seeks to equip the lake hamilton fire department and other nonprofit partners and service groups with the resources needed to improve the quality of life for those it serves.

the environmental initiatives fund is supported solely from shareholder profit and not entergy arkansas customer dollars. for 24 years in a row, operational nuclear power plant, proudly celebrates 50 years of commercial operation this december. since unit 1 began generating reliable electricity in 1974, ano team members have delivered safe, full-time workers and hundreds of additional contractors, making it one of the river valley’s top employers. these employees, supported by an annual payroll of about $84 million, play an integral role in the region’s economy.

ano also generates significant economic benefits during refueling and maintenance outages, bringing an influx of approximately 1,000 additional workers to the area and boosting local businesses such as hotels, restaurants and gas stations. with roughly $12 million annually spent on materials, services and fuel sourced from more than 175 arkansas companies, the plant’s financial impact is extensive. in fact, ano contributes over $190 million annually to arkansas’s gross state product as well as generating over $21 million annually in state and local tax revenues.

environmental leadership:

as a nuclear facility, ano provides clean power, helping reduce the carbon footprint in arkansas. by preventing the release of greenhouse gases and air pollutants associated with fossil fuel generation, the plant plays a critical role in improving air quality and providing 76% of the clean energy produced in the state.

commitment to the community:

ano employees are dedicated members of the community, donating their time, talents and financial resources to make a difference in the river valley. each year, grants totaling more than $100,000 are awarded to local nonprofits and ano employees partner with entergy to contribute more than $230,000 to the river valley united way.
little rock, ark. – nearly one out of five students at mcrae elementary has a recognized disability, which can make not only classroom activities but recess a challenge. part of the mission of entergy arkansas is to address the needs for quality education across the state, and providing a grant to make the school’s playground more accessible was a natural fit for the entergy charitable foundation.

“as a corporation, entergy arkansas invests in solutions and partners with nonprofits, schools and government organizations to provide opportunities and programs that create sustainable value and improve the quality of life for all our customers – young families, older arkansans and everyone in between,” said brandi hinkle with entergy arkansas corporate social responsibility. “we do this a number of ways, from providing grants and advocating for our customers to volunteering our time.”

the $5,000 grant will be used to purchase two pieces of inclusive equipment to make the playground more accessible for those with disabilities and allow their classmates to play together more easily as well. the pieces will include an aro spinning chair, which is set at transfer height for those in wheelchairs and has a tilted seat and higher back, and a sensory bench. the novo® playful bench allows kids to sit, relax, engage their senses, play games, learn numbers, and practice language skills in a relaxed space while engaging with each other, their caregivers, or playing solo.

“learning cooperation and how the world works around them are invaluable life skills that begin during play,” said mcrae elementary school principal heather franks, “and an inclusive playground provides opportunities for children to interact face-to-face and use their imagination. by including a variety of options on the playground, there will be developmentally appropriate challenges that meet kids wherever they are at while letting them build comfortably on the skills they already possess.”

across the company, entergy’s corporate social responsibility efforts are focused primarily on the broad pillars of poverty solutions, education and workforce development, and environmental programs. additionally, the areas of healthy families, arts and culture, and community enrichment are part of the overall strategy to contribute to a society that is healthy, educated, environmentally safe and productive.

“studies show more than 85 percent of adults with disabilities who report losing their jobs attribute it to a lack of social skills,” hinkle said, “and that negatively impacts all of our workforce. play is where we learn from each other and the more opportunities we create for that face-to-face play and social interaction, the more these life-long skills will be developed. we encourage other companies to invest in our children of all abilities to improve our workforce outcomes.”

entergy arkansas has awarded nearly $500,000 in shareholder profit and donations to scores of nonprofit partners in arkansas during the better part of the year. programs funded range from emergency response and relief out to double last year’s $60,000 in sponsorship pledges for the 2024 golf tournament,” said brandi hinkle, with entergy arkansas corporate social responsibility. “in the end, we met that goal and midwest transformers of kansas and a-line tds of oklahoma gave $7,500. in total, more than 40 vendors pledged $124,000 and an additional $2,866 was raised from cash donations during the day-long tournament for a sum of $126,826.

those funds will be matched one-to-one by entergy shareholders to total more than a quarter million dollars in assistance available to customers in arkansas through the power to care. with the match, the funds raised by the tournament alone this year will help keep the power on for more than 400 of entergy arkansas’ most vulnerable customers. the power to care is funded not by any of our customers, rather through donations made by employees, customers, vendors and entergy shareholders.

“the financial assistance provided by the power to care is invaluable to our customers,” said hinkle. “we are grateful to all our sponsors and the numerous entergy arkansas employee volunteers who worked together to make this possible. no one should have to oct 2024 09:41:00 -0500entergy arkansas welcomes fall with safety reminders
these simple tips can help you avoid accidents and injuries

little rock, ark. – the start of cooler temperatures outside makes fall-lovers eager for coats, sweaters and all the seasonal fun that begins in october. this time of year can also bring opportunities for customers to tackle home improvement or landscaping projects. as fun and gratifying as these activities can be, no one wants them to result in an accident or injury. entergy arkansas has some helpful tips for staying safe this fall.

stay safe outdoors

the halloween season brings children the fun of wearing costumes, enjoying candy and attending fall festivals and carnivals. the american academy of pediatrics offers tips to help children celebrate safely. prepare to welcome trick-or-treaters to your home safely by checking outdoor lights and making sure walkways and steps are well-lighted and free of any tripping hazards. any extension cords should be specifically designated for outdoor use. use rubber gaskets in light sockets or hang sockets downward to keep water out and remember to turn outside lights and decorations off when you are away from home or asleep. help children learn about safety with videos, activities and other resources.

keep safety first with home projects

fall is a great time to tidy up and prep your property for winter. when cleaning up fallen leaves and branches or trimming trees, always use caution and be aware of overhead lines. position your ladder away from overhead wires, so trimmings will not fall onto power lines. if this happens, always assume downed wires are energized and call 1-800-entergy for help.

if your fall spruce-up includes digging up flower beds, trees or shrubs, remember to call before you dig. calling 811 before you dig will keep you safe and prevent disruption of utility services to your neighborhood.

when performing maintenance activities that require a ladder inside or out, be sure to wear proper footwear, position the ladder on a flat surface, and have someone nearby to spot you.

daylight saving time ends november 3

when daylight saving time ends on sunday, nov. 3, fewer hours of daylight will make it harder to see children going to and from the school bus in the mornings and evenings. when driving, avoid distractions and watch for children in the neighborhood. the national association for pupil transportation offers additional tips for ensuring children arrive to and from school safely.

when setting your clocks to fall back an hour, take the time to check the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. all homes should contain a carbon monoxide detector to help identify the colorless and odorless gas that can cause serious illness or death.

stay safe and warm indoors

candles can add a warm ambience to an autumn evening, but remember it is never safe to leave candles burning unattended. a small sputter or an errant flame can cause a fire in an instant.

space heaters should only be used with caution. they are large consumers of energy and a fire hazard and should be kept at least three feet away from draperies, rugs and furniture. additionally, homeowners who use a gas or electric furnace should schedule an appointment for service by a certified technician to make sure it is safe for operation and for greatest efficiency.

a wood-burning stove or fireplace can add warmth and coziness to a room but should also be used with caution and proper preparation. have your chimney cleaned by a professional before the first fire is lit. fallen leaves, animal nests and other debris can cause the smoke to vent into your home rather than outside and cause a fire.

remember to replace dirty air filters inside and remove debris from the unit outside to ensure your hvac unit works efficiently through all seasons.

be ready for inclement weather

hurricane season lasts through the end of november, so it is important to not let your guard down even when the weather begins to cool. prepare now for severe weather that may come your way by making a plan and a kit.

save money year-round with our customer bill toolkit

entergy arkansas’ <a miss. – entergy’s women in nuclear chapter has been recognized again by the u.s. win organization as the “most reactive” chapter. it is the second time in as many years the chapter has gained national number of participating u.s. win members, the number of individuals and public sectors reached and the variety of topics covered.

“it was the dedication, hard work and leadership our team demonstrated last year that allowed us to be awarded, for the second year in a row, the most reactive chapter for 2023’s nuclear science week,” said danielle andreozzi, entergy nuclear design engineer and fleet president of entergy’s u.s. win chapter. “i am so proud to be a part of this organization and company. i have personally seen the effects advocating for nuclear and stem careers has on students and the local community.”

entergy has a win chapter at each of its four nuclear power plants in mississippi, arkansas and louisiana, as well as at its headquarters in jackson. chapters 16 apr 2024 16:07:00 -0500breaking ground, building safely: entergy arkansas recognizes safe digging month
stay safe by knowing where utility lines are buried- call 811 before you dig

little rock, ark. – spring is here and with warmer temperatures on the way, this is the prime season to start home improvement and landscaping projects. april is national safe digging month and entergy arkansas is reminding you to call 811 before digging into your list of spring projects.

national safe digging month serves as a reminder to all people who excavate or dig to call 811 at least two full business days before digging to have the approximate location of their utility lines marked. this process helps prevent injuries, property damage and inconvenient utility outages.

the focus of national safe digging month is on preventing serious consequences that could occur from digging without knowing what’s below the surface – not only now, but year-round. regardless of what you plan to do, how deep you plan to dig or even if you’ve called before for a similar project, every job requires a call first.

“protecting our customers and making sure they are safe is our top priority,” said adam effrein, vice president of reliability and power delivery for entergy arkansas. “everyone – homeowners, business owners and contractors – should call 811 to ensure you don’t disrupt underground utility lines, including gas, water and electric. not only is it the safe thing to do, but it’s also the law.”

the depth of underground utility lines varies and there may be multiple utility lines in one common area. the risk of striking underground utility lines exists even when digging only a few inches.

arkansas has its own 811 call center that can help you stay safe while digging. call center representatives can advise you on how to submit requests to learn what utilities may be buried beneath the ground, such as natural gas pipelines, electric power lines and other services.

after you make the call to 811, professional locators mark the approximate locations of underground lines at the requested digging site with flags, paint or both. markings show the location of underground lines and help prevent undesired consequences such as injury, service disruptions or costly fines and repair costs.

if you suspect utility damage of any kind, leave the area immediately and call 1-800-entergy (1-800-368-3749) or call 911. a gas leak could be occurring if you smell the distinctive natural gas odor, hear a hissing or whistling sound near a gas appliance or see dead vegetation or bubbles near a gas line.

for more information, visit arkansas811.com, entergy arkansas has partnered with the arkansas stem coalition to provide eclipse glasses for free to all prek-12 public school students, teachers and staff across the state, as much of arkansas will experience a total eclipse monday, april 8.

“as part of our ongoing commitment to education and workforce opportunities, entergy arkansas shines a light on steam field opportunities for students year-round,” said brandi hinkle with entergy arkansas corporate social responsibility. “now there’s a once-in-a-generation opportunity to pique their interest in science as arkansas will glasses, which were distributed to educational cooperatives and charter school offices throughout the state last week, enough for all students, teachers and staff within the entergy arkansas service territory. additional partners helped provide for those outside the 63 counties served by the utility.

“this year’s total solar eclipse is a phenomenon that we want all students to be able to low-cost power generation portfolio, along with lower gas prices last year, has allowed the company to decrease customer bills beginning with the april billing cycle.

an average residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kwh) per month will see a decrease of $10.01 in their total bills – a 7.49% decrease. commercial and industrial customers could see anywhere from a 1.6% to 17.7% decrease, depending on their customer usage profile.

“although our rates are consistently lower than the regional and national average, we continue to keep affordability for our customers at the forefront of our decisions,” said ventrell thompson, vice president of customer service. “the total decrease customers see on their bills will vary based on their individual energy usage but comes at a time when our customers need bill relief and will extend during the upcoming hot summer months.”

the decrease was prompted by a lower fuel rate, known as the energy cost recovery rider, which is adjusted and passed on to customers. the redetermined ecr rate will decrease from $0.01883 per kwh to $0.00882 per kwh – the lowest it has been in more than a decade.

each year, the fuel rate adjusts either up or down, depending on changes in the cost of fuel used by entergy arkansas to generate electricity and wholesale prices paid for additional electricity. the new rate is effective until march 2025, unless an interim adjustment is needed. it is reflected in the “fuel and purchased cost” line item on monthly bills.

“because we have a diverse fuel mix that includes nuclear, natural gas, coal, solar and hydropower, we are able to produce electricity at the lowest cost possible,” said william cunningham, director of resource planning. “in fact, our consistently low rates help make our state an attractive place for new and existing businesses to grow and expand.”

more than 71% of our total energy production in 2023 came from clean nuclear energy, while natural gas powered about 15% of our total energy production in 2023. in addition to entergy arkansas’ three solar facilities currently in operation – stuttgart, chicot and searcy – another 530 megawatts of new solar generation will be coming online this year – walnut bend (100 mw), west memphis (180 mw) and driver solar (250 mw). construction of another 400 mw of solar expected to be completed next year.

the new ecr rate includes recovery of cost shifting from entergy arkansas net-metering customers. in this year’s ecr calculations, entergy arkansas included $8.9 million in costs, which are being shifted to all customers because of private net-metering installations. notably, these costs are only a portion of the overall costs that have been shifted to other customers as a result of net-metering.

for more information about how entergy generates electricity, visit <a workers and equipment throughout our service area to quickly and safely respond if issues arise. while widespread power outages are not expected, entergy arkansas stands ready to restore power if needed.

visitors and traffic concerns

the massive influx of visitors expected in the state will cause challenges with transportation and traffic management that will likely impact arkansans during the solar eclipse. additionally, the possibility for severe spring weather, potential fuel shortages and other emergency events is being considered by state leaders.

with hundreds of thousands of visitors expected throughout the natural state during the eclipse, heavy traffic could make it hard to travel, especially immediately after the eclipse has passed. arkansas transportation officials say residents and visitors alike should be patient and expect traffic jams.

“increased traffic in a given area can cause concern for accident-related outages,” said adam effrein, entergy arkansas vice president of reliability. “if a vehicle hits a power pole, it can knock out power to the area until repairs can be made. in addition, cars parked to watch the eclipse could block crucial entrances to substations and electrical equipment that could hamper response times, should a power outage occur.”

entergy arkansas is planning for the solar eclipse in much the same way we do for storm situations, with reminders for customers to be sure their contact information is updated in our system, so any outages or unforeseen circumstances can be properly communicated to customers.

entergy arkansas recommends customers consider taking the following preparation steps before the solar eclipse:

stock up on groceries, medicine, and other daily necessities. since travel, even locally, will be challenging during the eclipse, get what you need to be able to stay home for those few days if possible.

fill up vehicles with gasoline ahead of time. don’t wait until visitors arrive in the state to purchase fuel when lines may be long and prices possibility of accidents and/or traffic delays.

expect heavy traffic and delays. if you must travel for work, school, etc., prepare for longer travel times. use alternate traffic routes, if available.

use special eclipse glasses to safely view the sun. according to the american astronomical society, staring directly into the sun during even target="_blank" rel="noopener">arkansas stem coalition to provide eclipse glasses for all k-12 public school students, as well as teachers and staff members.

experts say the only safe way to look directly at the sun is through special-purpose solar filters, and the american academy of ophthalmology is warning eclipse watchers to use caution when watching the solar eclipse. appropriate solar filters can be found in specially made eclipse glasses and hand-held solar viewers.

power capacity

when the moon passes in front of the sun during the april 8 eclipse, there will obviously be less solar power generated. because entergy arkansas has a diverse mix of generating resources, the eclipse is not expected to have a major impact on electricity delivery.

solar energy accounts for about 1.9% of power capacity for entergy arkansas, and while we don’t know the exact amount of solar power generation that will be impacted during the short time the total eclipse occurs, other generation sources like natural gas, hydropower and nuclear will offset any dip in solar power generation.

customers should note that the darkness during the eclipse most likely will trigger sensors on automatic street lighting or other safety lighting to turn on. entergy arkansas will not disable such lighting for the eclipse.

“planning for power generation during the solar eclipse is very similar to situations where we have thunderstorms or extended cloud cover in the area,” said effrein. “we’re well positioned with a diverse portfolio of power generation sources, and we don’t believe there will be any impact on customers’ electric service during this time.”

weather forecast

spring weather can bring severe storms to the area. while meteorologists will be closely watching the weather and making predictions for april 8, no one can say with certainty what kind of weather a specific location will experience on eclipse day.

entergy arkansas encourages customers to remain weather aware during this time and to be prepared in case severe weather strikes during the time of the eclipse.

to be ready before a storm threatens, customers are encouraged to put together a kit that includes emergency supplies and items like important personal documents and contacts, flashlights and cell phone chargers. additional suggestions on what to include in a kit can be found at entergynewsroom.com/storm-center/plankit.

also, it is important to know how to remain safe before, during and after a storm. customers are lines, as well as utility crews and their worksites. additional safety tips can be found at entergynewsroom.com/storm-center/safety.

there are several ways customers can stay connected with entergy throughout a storm event, including by signing up for text message alerts, downloading the free entergy mobile app and monitoring href="https://www.weather.gov/media/lzk/swaw2024pressrelease.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">severe weather awareness week. entergy arkansas is encouraging customers to observe the week by making a severe weather plan, keeping a kit and staying informed.

march 31, 2023, is a date that will forever be marked in arkansas severe weather history, as tornadoes ripped through our service area, devastating areas of little rock and the town of wynne.

“following the tornado and after each severe weather event we experience, we strive to build back stronger,” says laura landreaux, president and ceo of entergy arkansas. “we are hardening the system with taller and wider poles and concrete structures where needed, and redesigning parts of the system to make restoring power safer and quicker in the future.”

entergy recognizes that the intensity and frequency of major storms are increasing which is why the company is taking an accelerated approach to storm hardening and building resilience into the electric system.

“building back stronger will provide reliable power well into the future and help communities recover more quickly following severe weather events,” landreaux said.

our crews plan and train for storm readiness year-round, which aides us in restoring power as dates on your supplies often and replace the expired items.

keep up with weather updates. install a smart phone app that will alert you when severe weather is in the area or 26 feb 2024 12:23:00 -0600entergy arkansas' continuous energy improvement initiative saves businesses money
one south arkansas company estimated to have saved over $1 million in energy costs

little rock, ark. – arkansas businesses are receiving thousands of dollars in incentive payments and saving even more than that in energy usage by participating in entergy arkansas' entergy solutions continuous energy improvement (cei) initiative.

cei, which provides energy efficiency strategies, consulting advice and technical expertise designed to help companies save money and energy, has awarded five companies $862,482 and is estimated to generate energy savings of 36.5 million kilowatt hours. these energy savings keep more dollars in customers' pockets by reducing their energy costs while helping their facilities run more efficiently.

cei is provided at no additional cost to customers and is proven to change the way people use energy within their organization’s facility, which leads to quantifiable savings and fosters a culture of energy awareness.

here’s a look at a few of cei’s success stories:

roseburg forest products

by participating in entergy’s cei initiative, roseburg forest products in el dorado, ar, has received nearly $400,000 in incentives from entergy arkansas and avoided over 19 million kwh in energy usage, which equates to approximately $1,100,000 in avoided energy costs.

starting in 2021, roseburg forest products engaged with entergy’s (cei) initiative to continue their commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. by participating in cei, roseburg committed to reducing energy usage by 5% in the first year. after exceeding that 5% goal in the first year and considering the new motivation to complete additional energy-saving projects, the organization increased their goal to 10% for the second year.

danfoss power solutions

another cei success story is danfoss power solutions in searcy, arkansas. this organization also engaged with entergy's (cei) initiative in 2021. like roseburg, they exceeded their initial goal to decrease energy usage by 5% goal in the first year and then increased the goal to 15% for the second year. since the beginning of danfoss power solutions' participation in cei, they have received $37,785 in incentives from entergy arkansas and avoided more than 1 million kwh in energy usage, which equates to over $80,000 in avoided energy costs.

“we love seeing our customers, like danfoss, meet their goals and reap the benefits of increased energy savings and overall cost efficiency,” said todd welter, entergy customer service manager. “danfoss is a great example of a company whose participation in our entergy solutions initiatives has helped them prioritize environmental responsibility and see the benefits of these efforts, which will continue to increase over time.”

the cei initiative begins with people and focuses on even the smallest behaviors and how those have an impact on our efficiency. the initiative emphasizes low-cost and no-cost behavioral and operation changes like powering down equipment during breaks and on weekends to help organizations save energy and be more sustainable, while receiving incentives from entergy arkansas. as a part of cei, participants receive benefits from entergy arkansas, including one-on-one coaching and attending energy-saving workshops to learn more about how to save energy from entergy arkansas representatives, as well as other cei participants.

other program’s application period runs jan. 8 through march 22, officials said, or until funds are expended.

liheap is designed to lower the energy burden by paying benefits for home energy bills for low-income households, who pay a higher proportion of their income for home energy costs. the program is available during summer and winter, as heating and air units work harder and use more energy during extreme temperatures.

an online application is available for most entergy arkansas customers at www.getliheap.com, but applications can also be made in person at local community-based organizations.

“customers can quickly and easily complete the liheap application and upload the required documents from a computer, tablet or smart phone,” said brandi hinkle with entergy arkansas corporate social responsibility, “and we encourage family and friends to help those who might not be as tech-savvy.

“entergy arkansas seeks way to help our customers stay connected, and the liheap program is an excellent resource to help during financial difficulty,” hinkle said. “the online application makes the process faster to ensure your power stays on or reconnected if necessary, which is especially important when the temperatures are low.”

the arkansas department of energy & environment manages the liheap program for electricity, natural gas and water, but applications for assistance must be made through a community-based organization. customers can find their local agency online at www.adeq.state.ar.us, along with a complete list of eligibility and required documentation to complete the application.

eligibility is determined by household size and income. for example, a single individual with a maximum monthly countable income of $2,054 and a family of four with $3,949 would both be eligible. required documentation includes digital copies of a photo id for the utility account holder, social security cards for all household members, proof of income, proof of residency and copies of the most recent utility bills.

once approved for liheap funding, agencies make a pledge on a customer’s account for reconnection or to prevent disconnection.

for 18 jan 2024 11:26:00 -0600here's how to stay warm while conserving energy usage this winter
manage your electricity usage by implementing these energy efficiency practices

little rock, ark. – winter has arrived here in the natural state, kicking heaters and energy consumption into high gear. entergy arkansas wants customers to stay warm while managing their energy usage and costs, offering these helpful hints to make your home more energy efficient.

heating costs can account for more than 50 percent of a customer’s monthly energy usage. instead of cranking up the thermostat when the temperatures drop, take these free or low-cost steps to remain comfortable and save energy and money on your utility bills.

prepare for winter weather

keep heating costs low all season long by taking these tips to improve your home’s energy efficiency:

seal air leaks: use caulk or weatherstripping around doors, windows and any location where there may be a path between the inside and outside.

adjust the thermostat: set the thermostat to 68 degrees during winter months, and dress in layers to stay warm. each degree above 68 can increase your energy bill by about 3 percent.

conserve hot water: set your hot water heater’s thermostat to 120 degrees, or the medium setting. wrap electric water heaters with water heater blankets, which can be found at home improvement stores.

keep doors and windows closed: constant traffic will let out warm air, forcing your heater to work harder to keep the room at a set temperature.

ensure fans are turning the right way: fans should be run at a low speed clockwise during the winter to prevent the cold air from blowing down on you.

replace air filters: dirty filters make your heating system work harder. replace them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

use sunlight to your advantage: during the day, open your curtains and blinds to let in the warm sunlight. close them at night to reduce heat loss.

we also offer free comprehensive residential energy audits and rebates to help reduce the upfront cost of installing energy-efficient equipment. visit <a international association of fire fighters (iaff) local 34 partnered again this year for “operation warm,” donating coats to hundreds of students in the little rock school district friday, just before the students’ winter break begins.

operation warm is a national nonprofit that manufactures high-quality coats and shoes for children in need. the coats are designed and manufactured by the nonprofit to be long-wearing, water repellent and machine washable, with a warm fleece lining, deep pockets to keep little hands warm even without gloves, and detachable hoods. they come in sizes 2t to adult. since 1998, the organization has provided 5 million coats to kids in need across the united states.

the iaff union 34 began working with the national nonprofit several years ago after seeing a group of young children shivering at a school bus stop near their firehouse.

“helping people is our job, but it’s also part of who we are,” said iaff union 34 vice president matthew stallings. “we work year-round to support this program, and the last few weeks have been a concerted effort with entergy and the little rock school district to determine the needs of the students and organize the coats for distribution. it’s worth any effort, though, to see those smiling faces as we do what we can to help children in our community weather the cold.”

with the support of a $10,000 grant from entergy arkansas and payroll-deduction contributions from members of iaff local 34, firefighters purchased 800 new coats for children at brady and mabelvale elementary schools.

“the donation of coats goes beyond merely supplying clothing; it also fills our hearts with warmth, acknowledging the compassionate support of partners like the union 34 firefighters and entergy, said lrsd superintendent jermall wright. “year after year, they identify and address needs. since 2015, nearly 6000 students in schools across the little rock school district have experienced the generosity of these organizations, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation for their ongoing dedication and investment in our community."

entergy arkansas president and ceo laura landreaux said, “while entergy arkansas supports operation warm with funding and volunteers, the little rock fire fighters union 34 members make individual donations and spearhead the effort by contacting the schools to determine the number of coats needed, the sizes and gender of the students, ordering the coats and organizing them for delivery.”

“our charitable foundation works with partners year-round and across the state to better our communities through grants and volunteerism, and this event is one of our favorites each year,” she continued. “’we power life’ is more than just about providing electricity – we make it a part of our company’s culture to support the communities we serve, which is also where we live, work, raise our families and more. helping meet the needs of children and showing how much we care about their well-being helps them grow as adults into strong, healthy, community leaders. it’s truly an honor and a joy to be part of this effort.”
recognize the eighth annual utility scam awareness day on wednesday, nov. 15, during international fraud awareness week.

nationwide losses to business imposters – scammers who falsely claim affiliations with well-known companies like trusted utilities – soared in 2022, according to the federal trade commission. reported losses totaled $660 million, up from $453 million the previous year.

“scammers and other “bad actors” are constantly targeting utility customers with sophisticated attempts to gain your personal and financial information,” said ventrell thompson, vice president of customer service for entergy arkansas. “as the holiday season approaches, please be aware and remain vigilant, particularly against calls that request payment over the phone to avoid disconnection.”

utility scam awareness day is an advocacy campaign focused on exposing scams targeting utility customers. this year’s theme is “screen the search” to reflect the pervasiveness of search engine scams.

here are five common scams and tips to protect yourself from them:

search engine scams: watch out for convincing, but fraudulent, websites that look like ours when you search for it online. always confirm that you are using our official website, entergy.com, and our official customer portal, myentergy.com, to conduct business.

cash transaction app scams: don’t try to pay your entergy bill through third-party cash transaction apps like cash app, venmo or zelle. to review our authorized payment methods, visit myentergy.com/s/makepayment.

fake caller id displays: don’t rely on caller id displays; criminals can falsify them to disguise themselves as entergy representatives. always confirm an unknown caller’s identity through independent verification.

threats to disconnect: beware of threats to disconnect your utility service if you don’t provide immediate payment. we never demand immediate payment or cut off service without considerable advance warning.

false overpayment scams: beware of scammers who claim they want to give you a “refund" for an alleged entergy bill overpayment. use verified channels like myentergy, or contact us directly, to confirm the status of your account.

while far less common, in-person scammers often claim they need access to your property to provide repairs, offer free inspections or restore power first following an outage or disconnect in exchange for an upfront payment.

entergy arkansas will never demand or accept payment to restore your power, and we will call you or provide written notice if we need to access your property. if you are uncertain, contact us directly to verify whether an entergy service representative should be on-site.

if you fall victim to a scam, report it to entergy arkansas, your bank or financial institution and the proper authorities, including the local police, state attorney general’s office, better business bureau or ftc. document all details, such as receipts, names, websites, phone numbers or email addresses, associated with the crime.

entergy is proud member of united utilities against scams, a consortium of more than 150 u.s. and canadian electric, water and natural gas utilities and their respective trade associations that are dedicated to combating utility imposter scams.

with the assistance of customer reports, uuas has helped disconnect more than 14,020 toll-free numbers that scammers used to target utility customers.

visit <a 14 nov 2023 08:32:00 -0600entergy arkansas offers tips for keeping fall safe, fun
taking a few precautions can help you avoid accidents and injuries

the seasonal transition to fall is a time that many anticipate all year long—bringing sweater weather, scents of pumpkin spice, bright lights of the state fair and trick-or-treating, just to name a few. this time of year can also bring opportunities for customers to tackle home improvement or landscaping projects. as fun and gratifying as these activities can be, no one wants them to result in an accident or injury. entergy arkansas has some helpful tips for staying safe throughout the season.

keep safety first with home projects

fall is a great time to tidy up and prep your property for winter. when cleaning up fallen leaves and branches or trimming trees, always use caution and be aware of overhead lines. position your ladder away from overhead wires, so trimmings will not fall onto power lines. if this happens, always assume downed wires are energized and call 1-800-entergy for help.

if your fall spruce-up includes digging up flower beds, trees or shrubs, remember to call before you dig. calling 811 before you dig will keep you safe and prevent disruption of utility services to your neighborhood.

when performing maintenance activities that require a ladder inside or out, be sure to wear proper footwear, position the ladder on a flat surface, and have someone nearby to spot you.

keep the season safe, not scary

children look forward to the halloween season and all the fun it brings: wearing costumes, enjoying candy and attending fall festivals and carnivals. the american academy of pediatrics offers tips to help children celebrate safely.

prepare to welcome trick-or-treaters to your home safely by checking outdoor lights and making sure walkways and steps are well-lighted and free of any tripping hazards. for outside use, only three-wire grounded extension cords should be used. use rubber gaskets in light sockets or hang sockets downward to keep water out and remember to turn outside lights and decorations off when you are away from home or asleep. help children learn about safety with videos, activities and other resources.

daylight saving time ends november 5

when daylight saving time ends on sunday, nov. 5, fewer hours of daylight will make it harder to see children going to and from the school bus in the mornings and evenings. when driving, avoid distractions and watch for children in the neighborhood. the national association for pupil transportation offers additional tips for ensuring children arrive to and from school safely.

when setting your clocks to fall back an hour, take the time to check the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. all homes should contain a carbon monoxide detector to help identify the colorless and odorless gas that can cause serious illness or death.

stay cozy with these indoor tips

candles add a warm ambience to an autumn evening, but remember it is never safe to leave candles burning unattended. a small sputter or an errant flame can cause a fire in an instant.

space heaters should only be used with caution. they are large consumers of energy and a fire hazard and should be kept at least three feet away from draperies, rugs and furniture. additionally, homeowners who use a gas or electric furnace should schedule an appointment for service by a certified technician to make sure it is safe for operation and for greatest efficiency.

a wood-burning stove or fireplace can add warmth and coziness to a room but should also be used with caution and proper preparation. have your chimney cleaned by a professional before the first fire is lit. fallen leaves, animal nests and other debris can cause the smoke to vent into your home rather than outside and cause a fire.

remember to replace dirty air filters inside and remove debris from the unit outside to ensure your hvac unit works efficiently through all seasons.

hurricane season lasts through november 30, so it is important to not let your guard down when the weather begins to cool. prepare now for severe weather that may 15 aug 2023 08:31:00 -0500august 11 is "811 day" – reminder to call before you dig
811 protects you and the community. stay safe by knowing where utility lines are buried

little rock, ark. – entergy arkansas is reminding customers to call 811 before doing any digging in the ground. august 11 (8/11) is designated as “call before you dig day,” and the company is reminding homeowners and professional contractors to use the free 811 service before digging to reduce the risk of striking an underground utility or gas line.

“the safety of our customers is always our top priority,” said michael considine, entergy arkansas’ vice president of reliability. “august 11 is the perfect time to remind everyone to take the extra step and call 811 before any digging project, large or small. making that call is important to avoid service interruptions and, most of all, personal injury or worse.”

the depth of underground utility lines varies and there may be multiple utility lines in one common area. the risk of striking underground utility lines exists even when digging only a few inches.

entergy arkansas hopes august 11 will serve as an important reminder to all people who excavate or dig to call 811 at least two full business days before digging to have the approximate location of their utility lines marked. this process helps prevent injuries, property damage and inconvenient utility outages.

after you make the call to 811, professional locators mark the approximate locations of underground lines at the requested digging site with flags, paint or both. markings show the location of underground lines and help prevent undesired consequences such as injury, service disruptions or costly fines and repair costs.

“regardless of what you plan to do, how deep you plan to dig or even if you’ve called before for a similar project, every job requires a call first,” said considine. “not only is it the safe thing to do, but it’s also the law.”

calling 811 before you dig helps prevent serious consequences that could occur from digging without knowing what’s below the surface – not only now, but year-round.

if you suspect utility damage of any kind, leave the area immediately and call 1-800-entergy (1-800-368-3749) or call 911. a gas leak could be occurring if you smell the distinctive natural gas odor, hear a hissing or whistling sound near a gas appliance or see dead vegetation or bubbles near a gas line.

for more information, visit our website: <a
