winter storm outage update
12/09/2018
the wintry weather is moving out of our service territory. currently, our customers in arkansas are experiencing the highest number of power outages due to this storm.
we expect the majority of customers will be restored today. restoration for some will be tomorrow, due to winter storm conditions affecting our workers’ ability to safely travel to outage locations.
since friday night, we have safely restored more than 21,000 outages. but even with the workers on hand and a good plan, it’s going to take time to restore all power.
we know you are concerned about getting power back and how you can handle ordinary, everyday activities until then. crews are working in multiple locations. our plan prioritizes restoring power to groups of customers then individuals.
we recommend that if you do not have power, plan to be without until tomorrow, as we still face unsafe traveling conditions, such as black ice, that is preventing us from getting to some areas.
if you don’t see us working near you, keep in mind that we may be working on another part of the system that you can’t see but that is needed to get power to you.
if you relocated due to the storm and view outages indicates power is on in your area, please verify at your location by calling to reach an answering machine or checking with friends and neighbors. power may be restored elsewhere while a problem at your specific location still needs to be addressed.
keep safety at the forefront of everything you do. if you see a power line down, treat it as though it were energized and report it to 800-9outage (800-968-8243).
when power is restored, look for electrical system damage. if you see sparks or broken or frayed wires, or notice the smell of hot insulation, turn off the electricity at either the main fuse box or circuit breaker. you may need a licensed electrician to assess your equipment and assure safety.
