sowela students learn about plant operations and entergy careers during nelson tour

a group of process technology students from sowela technical community college recently toured the nelson plant to get an up-close look at how entergy employees generate electricity safely and efficiently.
located in lake charles, louisiana, sowela technical community college arranges for students to tour the nelson plant and other entergy facilities at least twice a year. the most recent tour in march focused on unit 6, where students checked out the control room, boiler and turbine area. they also interacted with employees and learned about career opportunities with entergy.
a few years ago, sowela launched a fast-track program to enable students with a college degree to earn a process technology degree in 16 weeks. graduates are prepared to work in a variety of industries, including petrochemical, refining, power generation, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper sectors.
