violent storms, packing high winds and tornadoes, swept through northern louisiana sunday and caused significant damage to entergy’s distribution and transmission system. the national weather service confirmed one tornado in webster parish, one in bienville parish and three in ouachita parish.
at the peak sunday, storms knocked out power to approximately 26,500 entergy louisiana customers. in south monroe, storms took out seven distribution lines connected to one substation. parts of these circuits must be repaired or rebuilt. the weather also affected several other circuits in the surrounding area and damaged several transmission structures.
by tuesday afternoon, scouts had tallied approximately 260 poles, 600 spans of wire and 75 transformers as damaged or needing repair across entergy louisiana’s service area. most damage was located in north louisiana.
crews are taking extra precautions to remain safe during the covid-19 pandemic, including following social-distancing guidelines set forth by health officials. we ask our customers to please keep your distance from work zones so everyone can remain safe.
there are several things you should do to make sure your locations are ready to be re-connected to the grid:
- check outside and around structures for damaged electrical equipment.
- if the meter or any of the conduit and wires on the outside wall are missing or look damaged, call an electrician to make repairs.
- entergy storm center has information on how to spot damages.
