entergy successfully piloted a new program that will help build a diverse and inclusive workforce by creating opportunities for young adults in the new orleans area to work at entergy.

the program, career pathways, was developed to reduce hiring barriers by helping participants prepare for careers at entergy, including taking — and passing — industry standard edison electric institute testing, a hiring requirement of most craft positions at entergy. our recruiting team will work closely with successful participants to identify opportunities for them at entergy.

candidates for the program were identified by our community partners, jobs for america's graduates, 1881 institute and youth empowerment project, to attend a four-day pilot workshop at entergy headquarters in august. during the workshop, the five pilot participants:

  • worked through center for energy workforce development curriculum and took the eei testing.
  • received help on résumé writing and interviewing.
  • learned how the company operates.
  • toured the bushnell training center.
  • met with current entergy employees.

at the end of the workshop, all five participants found out they passed their eei testing and received a certificate of completion. with a successful pilot in the books, the next step is to expand the program with a larger group of participants and hold the workshop annually during careers in energy week in october.

career pathways was created by entergy's corporate social responsibility, organizational health and diversity, and talent management teams. it is a product of the foundation strategy group's consortium of employers, of which entergy is a member, interested in innovating best practices in hiring, retention and advancement of opportunity youth and other populations.

entergy created career pathways to ensure we have broad, effective outreach to qualified diverse candidates by taking an active role in recruiting, training and hiring employees. although the program is initially focused on the new orleans area, it could be expanded to other communities.
