meet the pros: billy blaylock

10/16/2024

meet billy blaylock, an incident response manager of logistical programs based out of transmission headquarters in jackson, miss. who has worked for entergy for more than 14 years.

blaylock’s passion for his work is fueled by the well-known quote from general dwight d. eisenhower, ‘you will not find it difficult to prove that battles, campaigns and even wars have been won or lost primarily because of logistics.” blaylock began his career with entergy in distribution operations, later moving into system outage response, after a robust career as a production manager for various manufacturing companies and serving in the united states army and army national guard for 13 years.

“i think what most prepared me for my current role was the work i did with the louisiana national guard during hurricane katrina,” said blaylock. “during katrina, i helped coordinate the response efforts of army national guardsmen from around the country. that work mirrored what entergy’s incident response team does during a storm and made me realize how critical entergy’s mission is to our customers.”

blaylock oversees the logistics team’s plans to ensure the company maintains the correct resources to best situate the organization to respond quickly and safely during any incident.

“we coordinate the movement of resources into entergy and make sure that every recovery task needed is understood so our employees can execute tasks and have all the materials to do their job safely,” said blaylock.

blaylock studied business at louisiana state university while attending through a reserve officers’ training corp scholarship. “in the army we were always training to ensure we have the right number of resources so that any role could perform essential tasks in any situation.”

his army experience is beneficial at helping him strengthen his team’s ability to respond to various incidents cost effectively, managing logistics programs and nurturing the company’s mutual aid relationships.

“no utility has enough rough resources to do it on their own, which is why we are committed to share and lift the burden for our neighbors when disasters strike,” said blaylock.

during blue sky days, the incident response team focuses on planning and preparation. their hard work pays off when the company is reminded that for every single lineman, it takes a large support organization to ensure they are able to turn the power back on.

“i advocate for employees to volunteer to work logistic storm roles because i understand how important the roles are for effectively getting the lights back on,” he noted. “it seems simple but having an employee help big trucks park correctly and safely for refuel so they can quickly get to work cannot happen without logistics support.”

blaylock is proud to work at entergy because of the purpose and meaning of his role.

“i am proud to work at entergy because we provide a tangible purpose,” he said. “you come to work, and you know you are making a difference in people’s lives by providing reliable power.”

outside of work, blaylock enjoys watching his two sons make their own way in the world. he is also into photography and can be found behind the camera when not working.
