let's work together to support louisiana food banks' fight against hunger
01/10/2016
thousands of louisiana's children would go to bed hungry each night if not for the tireless efforts of food banks and other agencies across the state.
"no child living in louisiana should ever go hungry. unfortunately, that's too often the case. in fact, nearly one out of every four children in louisiana lives in a home that struggles to put food on the table throughout the year," said phillip may, president and ceo of entergy louisiana.
that's why we are committed to supporting our state's food banks. in 2015 alone, entergy louisiana provided $110,000 in grants to food banks and related organizations in louisiana. the funds are used to support programs like second harvest's kids café, which provides hot meals to at-risk children who attend after-school programs.
entergy louisiana got an early start on helping food banks in 2016, presenting a $20,000 grant on jan. 7 to the food bank of northeast louisiana for its back pack program, which allows at-risk children to bring home nutritious food when other resources might not be available, such as weekends or during vacations. the program currently serves some 500 children each week in nine ouachita parish schools.
"our state's food banks need our help to meet the growing demand for their services. i urge everyone to join with us in supporting these groups. by working together, we can ensure they have the resources to meet their needs," may said.
the following food banks and organizations received grants in 2015 from entergy louisiana:
- second harvest food bank -- $35,000
