entergy’s support helps new orleans students start school year on positive note
10/16/2018
thanks to the generosity of entergy employees, hundreds of underprivileged students in new orleans started the new school year on a positive note with health screenings, classroom supplies and new uniforms.
in july, entergy supported ozanam inn's first forgotten angels back-to-school and health fair, which focused on helping children whose families live in homeless shelters. ninety-five kids attended the event and received free health screenings and school supplies. backpacks filled with supplies were distributed to an additional 240 students who were not able to attend.
"the event was wonderful," said jessica williams, regulatory affairs executive assistant for entergy new orleans, who helped coordinate entergy's supply drive with kim mitchell, community development program representative. "employees donated enough supplies to fill the back of a pickup truck. we had everything you could think of — glue, rulers, pencil bags, scissors, crayons, markers, folders and 100 packs of loose-leaf paper. we had it all!"
entergy also partnered with sayas hands foundation to provide supplies for students attending einstein charter schools. in addition, employees helped raise $750 to purchase new uniforms for 26 students whose families could not afford them.
"we are so grateful for employees who are always willing to give back to the community and serve children in need," said demetric mercadel, senior customer service specialist for entergy new orleans. "i'd like to thank everyone who contributed this year; your support made the difference for so many students."
