entergy interns have no complaints when it comes to getting a foot in the door at one of the top utility companies in the nation.
after getting their feet wet and diving into their summer internship roles, students from all across the country had the opportunity to network and learn more about entergy at the two-day event. more than 120 interns gathered in downtown new orleans in july for the 2017 jumpstart internship event.
the jumpstart program is focused on teaching interns more about the company including core values, future plans and some words of advice from top executives that appeared as guest speakers.
chairman and ceo leo denault led the program with a warm welcome and insightful story about how he got to where he is in his professional career. denault also spoke about the importance of entergy’s role in the community and the need to invest in education before a networking dinner reception.
“you can be anything,” said denault. “as you go through your career, you are going to figure out what it is you are going to do. you want that to be exciting. you want that to be fun. you want it to be something that contributes to the organization and to your own well-being and your family.”
on day two, interns had the pleasure of hearing from five other guest speakers with unique backgrounds in the company including chief financial officer drew marsh and group president of utility operations rod west.
“i enjoyed listening to our cfo, drew marsh,” said annie friedman, a finance major from tulane university. “i learned a lot of what he talked about already through the internship, so it was cool to get a different insight from one of our top leaders.”
“the biggest thing that i got out of today was the talk from rod west, “said justin reimonenq, also a finance major, who is a student at notre dame. “i am hoping to gain a lot of quality experience and hope this opens up a pathway to possible full-time employment.”
the entergy internship is a great opportunity for students to add valuable experience to their resume, but it offers more. booths were set up to allow interns to network and learn more about other departments across the company.
at the conclusion of the event, the attendees had an opportunity to work together with a team-building activity by hosted by the murder mystery company. a magic act turned into a murder scene had interns gathering information and trading clues to solve the crime. side note: fun was had by all.
“my favorite part, for sure, was the mystery team-building activity,” said friedman.
as the summer draws to a close, many of the interns are preparing to return to school or enter the full time workforce. the knowledge gained from their daily experiences at entergy will help as they pave their own path for the future.
