crews making progress restoring power in hardest hit areas
01/11/2020
crews expect to restore power tonight to the vast majority of customers affected by a storm system that cut through louisiana saturday, with all remaining customers in the hardest hit areas who can take service restored by sunday or monday.
the system brought waves of severe weather in the form of rain, lightning and strong winds, downing trees and poles and knocking out power to approximately 34,000 customers at the peak saturday. as of 4:30 p.m., crews had restored power to all but approximately 6,000 customers, with most located in webster and claiborne parishes in north louisiana and jefferson davis and tangipahoa parishes in south louisiana.
a storm team is continuing to clear downed trees, limbs and other debris and repair damage and restore power as quickly and safely as possible. as crews complete work, they are converging on other locations to help accelerate restoration efforts in the hardest hit areas. here is the latest on those areas:
- in north louisiana, approximately 4,000 customers will remain without power into tomorrow, while an isolated group will have service restored monday because of extensive damage to the electrical system due to strong winds.
- crews encountered significant damage to transmission infrastructure in jefferson davis parish where an isolated pocket of customers could be without power until monday when repairs can be completed.
