04/07/2020
saint mary’s regional medical center in russellville, arkansas, was at risk of running short on personal protective equipment to help keep their workers safe when working with patients who either were or might be infected with covid-19.
the staff at arkansas nuclear one saw an opportunity to help their neighbors in the medical community stay healthy in the middle of the pandemic.
ano was well-stocked with full-body ppe, and they had enough to share.
so on april 2 ano staff delivered a pallet-load of boxes – $2,000-worth – of ppe to st. mary’s, including nearly 500 coveralls, 120 lab coats and disinfection supplies.
“you can’t imagine how helpful this is at our time of need. it’s wonderful,” said linda tapp, materials director for the hospital. “the community has really come together. it’s like christmas here.”
since the inception of the covid-19 pandemic, ano has been safely and diligently working to generate clean, affordable power that is vital to keeping the state running. the employees are dedicated in their mission, no matter what types of challenges they may face.
the donations are just another way the plant and its workers give back to their friends and neighbors.
“we have to do everything we can to help the community. that’s our responsibility,” said josh toben, ano emergency preparedness manager. “the staff was super-excited. we all had high-fives from about six feet away!”
