annual event presented by entergy and bike easy rescheduled due to anticipated inclement weather

who: 

greater new orleans residents, 沙特vs墨西哥让球, bike easy, bike law la, new orleans regional planning commission and city of new orleans (office of mayor mitch landrieu)

what: 

people from all over new orleans will participate in the 5th annual nola bike to work day by biking to work on wednesday, april 20. on nola bike to work day, bike trains will depart from multiple locations around the city and convene at lafayette square for a commemoration ceremony marking the completion of 100 miles of bikeways in new orleans. there will be an unveiling of the 2016 bike map and guide to safe cycling, while participants will also enjoy complimentary refreshments, giveaways and bike repairs.

7 – 10 a.m.

scheduled nola bike to work day events include the following:

7 – 7:30 a.m.:                      

bike trains

those who work in the cbd can join experienced riders at strategically placed neighborhood bike trains throughout orleans parish to ride together downtown. the bike trains will gather at 7:00 a.m. for free coffee, neighborhood camaraderie and check-in. the trains will leave the meetups at 7:30 a.m. to be at lafayette square around 8:00 a.m.

bike train locations include: uptown (hey! café), gentilly (daddy’s donuts), mid-city (lafitte greenway circle at jefferson davis), algiers point (algiers ferry landing), broadmoor (keller library) and 7th ward (dashing bicycles).

8 – 9:30 a.m.:

morning meet-up for all riders

lafayette square (between camp street and st. charles in the cbd) 

riders will stop by lafayette square on their way to work for complimentary snacks, giveaways and bike tune-ups.

8:30 – 8:45 a.m.:

dignitaries and the community will gather to commemorate the completion of 100 miles of bikeways by unveiling the city’s new bike lane/bike path maps.

this event is free and anyone with a bike can participate. register online here. participants registered for the original date do not need to re-register for the rain date.

why:

nola bike to work day helps introduce more people to bike commuting, shows a collective strength in numbers, and demonstrates why new orleans is in the top 10 american cities for bike commuting. before hurricane katrina, new orleans had approximately 11 miles of bicycle paths. thanks to a grant from entergy and a partnership between the city of new orleans and the louisiana public health institute, the city is now celebrating the achievement of 100 miles of installed bikeways in 2016!
