07 aug 2024 11:09:00 -0500entergy arkansas customers to receive a one-time bill credit in august
at a time when budgets may be tight with back-to-school shopping and higher summer expenses, entergy arkansas customers will be getting a break on their august bills.

a residential customer will receive a one-time bill credit of approximately $78 – a decrease of about 63% for a residential customer using 1,000 kwh. commercial and industrial customers will also receive a one-time bill credit in august. small general service customers will receive a credit of approximately $221, and large general service customers will receive a credit of approximately $12,158.

the bill credit is applied in august and coincides with july energy consumption, which is usually one of the highest months from an energy usage and bill amount standpoint.

it also comes months after residential customers saw their <a customers to spend their money on other needs, such as back-to-school shopping.”

the credit, known as the “grand gulf bill credit,” stems from a lawsuit settlement between the arkansas public service commission and system energy resources inc., which operates the grand gulf nuclear station. other entergy operating companies in mississippi and new orleans also settled the lawsuit under the same terms as arkansas.

only current entergy arkansas customers who began service in december 2023 or earlier will qualify for the bill credits. if the august bill credit exceeds a customer’s total bill charges, any remaining bill credit amount will apply toward their subsequent bills.

as noted in an <a miss. – entergy’s women in nuclear chapter has been recognized again by the u.s. win organization as the “most reactive” chapter. it is the second time in as many years the chapter has gained national recognition for their educational outreach efforts, this time for their work during 2023’s national nuclear science week.

chapters are judged on the number of activities held during nsw, the number of participating u.s. win members, the number of individuals and public sectors reached and the variety of topics covered.

“it was the dedication, hard work and leadership our team demonstrated last year that allowed us to be awarded, for the second year in a row, the most reactive chapter for 2023’s nuclear science week,” said danielle andreozzi, entergy nuclear design engineer and fleet president of entergy’s u.s. win chapter. “i am so proud to be a part of this organization and company. i have personally seen the effects advocating for nuclear and stem careers has on students and the local community.”

entergy has a win chapter at each of its four nuclear power plants in mississippi, arkansas and louisiana, as well as at its headquarters in jackson. chapters from all five sites participated, with some putting on multiple events. among the outreach efforts were:

nuclear and stem-related activities and giveaways for visitors at the mississippi children’s museum hosted by win volunteers from entergy nuclear’s echelon headquarters

stem day and national science day events at grand gulf nuclear station in port gibson, miss. for girl advocacy letters to mississippi legislators from entergy nuclear headquarter employees

in all, their efforts reached more than 1,500 school children, teachers, parents, legislators and other community members.

“this year’s competition for the most reactive chapter was fierce,” said jennifer watkins, nuclear science week lead for the u.s. win communications committee. “we had submissions from 10 chapters who all did an amazing job with their outreach efforts. the creativity and diversity in events were fantastic. approximately 3,000 individuals of all ages were able to explore nuclear science topics—and that doesn’t even cover those who were reached via social media! we love seeing how our chapters promote and support nuclear energy as a carbon-free energy source in our communities.”

u.s. women in nuclear is an organization of individuals who work in nuclear energy and technology fields around the united states. their vision is aimed at positioning the ap&l in 1913. three years later, he was approached by flave carpenter about building dams on the ouachita river to harness hydroelectric power.

remmel dam was one of the first major sources of power generation for ap&l. it was the third generation site built by harvey couch and the only one still operating today, with many original parts, in service for entergy. it was added to the national register of historic places in 1992. the lake and surrounding area created by remmel dam has been a great source of tourism and 2022年世界杯比分 for the state.

remmel dam is named after colonel harmon l. remmel, a friend of harvey couch who helped facilitate meetings in washington d.c. for couch to obtain licensing and permission to build the dam. construction on the dam began in may 1923 and was completed in december 1924 at a total cost of $2,142,000.

“the benefits that remmel dam has brought to the malvern and hot springs area are numerous,” said kimberly bogart, lakes manager for carpenter and remmel dams. “the dams were originally intended to help bring reliable low-cost electrical power to the state, but now also serve multiple purposes including fisheries and especially recreation/tourism. hot springs is the number one tourist destination in the state of arkansas and one of the major draws is the area lakes, which all started with remmel dam and lake catherine.

today, power from remmel dam services not only entergy arkansas, but is also interconnected to the entergy power grid. entergy arkansas plans to continue maximizing the dam’s ability to provide safe and reliable hydroelectric power to the state of arkansas for the next century.

“with one hundred years in service, the dam boasts a legacy of rich history and community
little rock, ark. – spring is here and with warmer temperatures on the way, this is the prime season to start home improvement and landscaping projects. april is national safe digging month and entergy arkansas is reminding you to call 811 before digging into your list of spring projects.

national safe digging month serves as a reminder to all people who excavate or dig to call 811 at least two full business days before digging to have the approximate location of their utility lines marked. this process helps prevent injuries, property damage and inconvenient utility outages.

the focus of national safe digging month is on preventing serious consequences that could occur from digging without knowing what’s below the surface – not only now, but year-round. regardless of what you plan to do, how deep you plan to dig or even if you’ve called before for a similar project, every job requires a call first.

“protecting our customers and making sure they are safe is our top priority,” said adam effrein, vice president of reliability and power delivery for entergy arkansas. “everyone – homeowners, business owners and contractors – should call 811 to ensure you don’t disrupt underground utility lines, including gas, water and electric. not only is it the safe thing to do, but it’s also the law.”

the depth of underground utility lines varies and there may be multiple utility lines in one common area. the risk of striking underground utility lines exists even when digging only a few inches.

arkansas has its own 811 call center that can help you stay safe while digging. call center representatives can advise you on how to submit requests to learn what utilities may be buried beneath the ground, such as natural gas pipelines, electric power lines and other services.

after you make the call to 811, professional locators mark the approximate locations of underground lines at the requested digging site with flags, paint or both. markings show the location of underground lines and help prevent undesired consequences such as injury, service disruptions or costly fines and repair costs.

if you suspect utility damage of any kind, leave the area immediately and call 1-800-entergy (1-800-368-3749) or call 911. a gas leak could be occurring if you smell the distinctive natural gas odor, hear a hissing or whistling sound near a gas appliance or see dead vegetation or bubbles near a gas line.

for more information, visit arkansas811.com, entergy arkansas has partnered with the arkansas stem coalition to provide eclipse glasses for free to all prek-12 public school students, teachers and staff across the state, as much of arkansas will experience a total eclipse monday, april 8.

“as part of our ongoing commitment to education and workforce opportunities, entergy arkansas shines a light on steam field opportunities for students year-round,” said brandi hinkle with entergy arkansas corporate social responsibility. “now there’s a once-in-a-generation opportunity to pique their interest in science as arkansas will experience a total eclipse, a celestial event that won’t happen for us again for nearly 20 years.”

a grant from entergy arkansas helped fund the purchase of more than 600,000 pairs of eclipse glasses, which were distributed to educational cooperatives and charter school offices throughout the state last week, enough for all students, teachers and staff within the entergy arkansas service territory. additional partners helped provide for those outside the 63 counties served by the utility.

“this year’s total solar eclipse is a phenomenon that we want all students to be able to encounter safely,” said hannah vogler, executive director for the arkansas stem coalition. “most of our state being in the path of totality gives arkansans a unique opportunity to be part of history, experiencing something others may never see in their lifetimes.”

volunteers from both the stem coalition, entergy arkansas and other groups worked for more than six weeks to sort and pack up the glasses for delivery to the state’s educational co-ops and charter school offices, which in turn delivered them last week to the school districts.

nearly two-thirds of the state is inside the path of totality for the eclipse monday, including large stretches of interstates 30 and 40 along with miles of state highways, county roads and city streets. the centerline of the eclipse will enter the state around 12:29 p.m. and exit the state at approximately 3:14 p.m. numerous locations throughout the state will experience total darkness for anywhere from one to four minutes.

experts say the only safe way to look directly at the sun is through special-purpose solar filters, and the american academy of ophthalmology is warning eclipse watchers to use caution when watching the solar eclipse. appropriate solar filters are found in specially made hand-held viewers and eclipse glasses, purchased from trusted, credible vendors. entergy arkansas and the stem 02 apr 2024 08:19:00 -0500entergy arkansas customer bills to decrease beginning in april
average residential customer will save over $10 per month

little rock, ark. – entergy arkansas’ low-cost power generation portfolio, along with lower gas prices last year, has allowed the company to decrease customer bills beginning with the april billing cycle.

an average residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kwh) per month will see a decrease of $10.01 in their total bills – a 7.49% decrease. commercial and industrial customers could see anywhere from a 1.6% to 17.7% decrease, depending on their customer usage profile.

“although our rates are consistently lower than the regional and national average, we continue to keep affordability for our customers at the forefront of our decisions,” said ventrell thompson, vice president of customer service. “the total decrease customers see on their bills will vary based on their individual energy usage but comes at a time when our customers need bill relief and will extend during the upcoming hot summer months.”

the decrease was prompted by a lower fuel rate, known as the energy cost recovery rider, which is adjusted and passed on to customers. the redetermined ecr rate will decrease from $0.01883 per kwh to $0.00882 per kwh – the lowest it has been in more than a decade.

each year, the fuel rate adjusts either up or down, depending on changes in the cost of fuel used by entergy arkansas to generate electricity and wholesale prices paid for additional electricity. the new rate is effective until march 2025, unless an interim adjustment is needed. it is reflected in the “fuel and purchased cost” line item on monthly bills.

“because we have a diverse fuel mix that includes nuclear, natural gas, coal, solar and hydropower, we are able to produce electricity at the lowest cost possible,” said william cunningham, director of resource planning. “in fact, our consistently low rates help make our state an attractive place for new and existing businesses to grow and expand.”

more than 71% of our total energy production in 2023 came from clean nuclear energy, while natural gas powered about 15% of our total energy production in 2023. in addition to entergy arkansas’ three solar facilities currently in operation – stuttgart, chicot and searcy – another 530 megawatts of new solar generation will be coming online this year – walnut bend (100 mw), west memphis (180 mw) and driver solar (250 mw). construction of another 400 mw of solar expected to be completed next year.

the new ecr rate includes recovery of cost shifting from entergy arkansas net-metering customers. in this year’s ecr calculations, entergy arkansas included $8.9 million in costs, which are being shifted to all customers because of private net-metering installations. notably, these costs are only a portion of the overall costs that have been shifted to other customers as a result of net-metering.

for more information about how entergy generates electricity, visit <a 28 mar 2024 14:08:00 -0500entergy arkansas prepared for solar eclipse
path of totality across the state will not affect power capacity

little rock, ark. – a large part of arkansas will go dark monday, april 8, but it won’t be because the lights go out.

a once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse will take place over arkansas in the early afternoon, and entergy arkansas is encouraging customers to be prepared.

the path of the eclipse across the state will cover large stretches of interstates 30 and 40 along with miles of state highways, county roads and city streets. nearly two-thirds of the state is inside the path of totality for the eclipse. the centerline of the eclipse will enter the state around 12:29 p.m. and exit the state at approximately 3:14 p.m. several locations throughout the state will experience total darkness for anywhere from 1-4 minutes.

entergy arkansas is working with officials from the arkansas department of emergency management, arkansas department of transportation and other state and city leaders on a preparedness plan that includes preparing for heavy traffic, monitoring the weather and mobilizing workers and equipment throughout our service area to quickly and safely respond if issues arise. while widespread power outages are not expected, entergy arkansas stands ready to restore power if needed.

visitors and traffic concerns

the massive influx of visitors expected in the state will cause challenges with transportation and traffic management that will likely impact arkansans during the solar eclipse. additionally, the possibility for severe spring weather, potential fuel shortages and other emergency events is being considered by state leaders.

with hundreds of thousands of visitors expected throughout the natural state during the eclipse, heavy traffic could make it hard to travel, especially immediately after the eclipse has passed. arkansas transportation officials say residents and visitors alike should be patient and expect traffic jams.

“increased traffic in a given area can cause concern for accident-related outages,” said adam effrein, entergy arkansas vice president of reliability. “if a vehicle hits a power pole, it can knock out power to the area until repairs can be made. in addition, cars parked to watch the eclipse could block crucial entrances to substations and electrical equipment that could hamper response times, should a power outage occur.”

entergy arkansas is planning for the solar eclipse in much the same way we do for storm situations, with reminders for customers to be sure their contact information is updated in our system, so any outages or unforeseen circumstances can be properly communicated to customers.

entergy arkansas recommends customers consider taking the following preparation steps before the solar eclipse:

stock up on groceries, medicine, and other daily necessities. since travel, even locally, will be challenging during the eclipse, get what you need to be able to stay home for those few days if possible.

fill up vehicles with gasoline ahead of time. don’t wait until visitors arrive in the state to purchase fuel when lines may be long and prices could be higher.

reschedule errands or appointments. if you can avoid being out and about during the time of the eclipse, stay home. fewer people on the roads means less possibility of accidents and/or traffic delays.

expect heavy traffic and delays. if you must travel for work, school, etc., prepare for longer travel times. use alternate traffic routes, if available.

use special eclipse glasses to safely view the sun. according to the american astronomical society, staring directly into the sun during even partial solar eclipses can cause permanent eye damage.

customer safety

entergy arkansas has partnered with the arkansas stem coalition to provide eclipse glasses for all k-12 public school students, as well as teachers and staff members.

experts say the only safe way to look directly at the sun is through special-purpose solar filters, and the american academy of ophthalmology is warning eclipse watchers to use caution when watching the solar eclipse. appropriate solar filters can be found in specially made eclipse glasses and hand-held solar viewers.

power capacity

when the moon passes in front of the sun during the april 8 eclipse, there will obviously be less solar power generated. because entergy arkansas has a diverse mix of generating resources, the eclipse is not expected to have a major impact on electricity delivery.

solar energy accounts for about 1.9% of power capacity for entergy arkansas, and while we don’t know the exact amount of solar power generation that will be impacted during the short time the total eclipse occurs, other generation sources like natural gas, hydropower and nuclear will offset any dip in solar power generation.

customers should note that the darkness during the eclipse most likely will trigger sensors on automatic street lighting or other safety lighting to turn on. entergy arkansas will not disable such lighting for the eclipse.

“planning for power generation during the solar eclipse is very similar to situations where we have thunderstorms or extended cloud cover in the area,” said effrein. “we’re well positioned with a diverse portfolio of power generation sources, and we don’t believe there will be any impact on customers’ electric service during this time.”

weather forecast

spring weather can bring severe storms to the area. while meteorologists will be closely watching the weather and making predictions for april 8, no one can say with certainty what kind of weather a specific location will experience on eclipse day.

entergy arkansas encourages customers to remain weather aware during this time and to be prepared in case severe weather strikes during the time of the eclipse.

to be ready before a storm threatens, customers are encouraged to put together a kit that includes emergency supplies and items like important personal documents and contacts, flashlights and cell phone chargers. additional suggestions on what to include in a kit can be found at entergynewsroom.com/storm-center/plankit.

also, it is important to know how to remain safe before, during and after a storm. customers are encouraged to monitor news reports and be aware of any evacuation directions from local authorities. if a storm does impact the area, please remember to use generators safely and avoid downed power lines, as well as utility crews and their worksites. additional safety tips can be found at entergynewsroom.com/storm-center/safety.

there are several ways customers can stay connected with entergy throughout a storm event, including by signing up for text message alerts, downloading the free entergy mobile app and monitoring the company’s view outage map, storm center and social media channels. additional information on these tools can be found at <a 18 jan 2024 11:26:00 -0600here's how to stay warm while conserving energy usage this winter
manage your electricity usage by implementing these energy efficiency practices

little rock, ark. – winter has arrived here in the natural state, kicking heaters and energy consumption into high gear. entergy arkansas wants customers to stay warm while managing their energy usage and costs, offering these helpful hints to make your home more energy efficient.

heating costs can account for more than 50 percent of a customer’s monthly energy usage. instead of cranking up the thermostat when the temperatures drop, take these free or low-cost steps to remain comfortable and save energy and money on your utility bills.

prepare for winter weather

keep heating costs low all season long by taking these tips to improve your home’s energy efficiency:

seal air leaks: use caulk or weatherstripping around doors, windows and any location where there may be a path between the inside and outside.

adjust the thermostat: set the thermostat to 68 degrees during winter months, and dress in layers to stay warm. each degree above 68 can increase your energy bill by about 3 percent.

conserve hot water: set your hot water heater’s thermostat to 120 degrees, or the medium setting. wrap electric water heaters with water heater blankets, which can be found at home improvement stores.

keep doors and windows closed: constant traffic will let out warm air, forcing your heater to work harder to keep the room at a set temperature.

ensure fans are turning the right way: fans should be run at a low speed clockwise during the winter to prevent the cold air from blowing down on you.

replace air filters: dirty filters make your heating system work harder. replace them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

use sunlight to your advantage: during the day, open your curtains and blinds to let in the warm sunlight. close them at night to reduce heat loss.

we also offer free comprehensive residential energy audits and rebates to help reduce the upfront cost of installing energy-efficient equipment. visit <a international association of fire fighters (iaff) local 34 partnered again this year for “operation warm,” donating coats to hundreds of students in the little rock school district friday, just before the students’ winter break begins.

operation warm is a national nonprofit that manufactures high-quality coats and shoes for children in need. the coats are designed and manufactured by the nonprofit to be long-wearing, water repellent and machine washable, with a warm fleece lining, deep pockets to keep little hands warm even without gloves, and detachable hoods. they come in sizes 2t to adult. since 1998, the organization has provided 5 million coats to kids in need across the united states.

the iaff union 34 began working with the national nonprofit several years ago after seeing a group of young children shivering at a school bus stop near their firehouse.

“helping people is our job, but it’s also part of who we are,” said iaff union 34 vice president matthew stallings. “we work year-round to support this program, and the last few weeks have been a concerted effort with entergy and the little rock school district to determine the needs of the students and organize the coats for distribution. it’s worth any effort, though, to see those smiling faces as we do what we can to help children in our community weather the cold.”

with the support of a $10,000 grant from entergy arkansas and payroll-deduction contributions from members of iaff local 34, firefighters purchased 800 new coats for children at brady and mabelvale elementary schools.

“the donation of coats goes beyond merely supplying clothing; it also fills our hearts with warmth, acknowledging the compassionate support of partners like the union 34 firefighters and entergy, said lrsd superintendent jermall wright. “year after year, they identify and address needs. since 2015, nearly 6000 students in schools across the little rock school district have experienced the generosity of these organizations, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation for their ongoing dedication and investment in our community."

entergy arkansas president and ceo laura landreaux said, “while entergy arkansas supports operation warm with funding and volunteers, the little rock fire fighters union 34 members make individual donations and spearhead the effort by contacting the schools to determine the number of coats needed, the sizes and gender of the students, ordering the coats and organizing them for delivery.”

“our charitable foundation works with partners year-round and across the state to better our communities through grants and volunteerism, and this event is one of our favorites each year,” she continued. “’we power life’ is more than just about providing electricity – we make it a part of our company’s culture to support the communities we serve, which is also where we live, work, raise our families and more. helping meet the needs of children and showing how much we care about their well-being helps them grow as adults into strong, healthy, community leaders. it’s truly an honor and a joy to be part of this effort.”
day is an advocacy campaign focused on exposing scams targeting utility customers. this year’s theme is “screen the search” to reflect the pervasiveness of search engine scams.

here are five common scams and tips to protect yourself from them:

search engine scams: watch out for convincing, but fraudulent, websites that look like ours when you search for it online. always confirm that you are using our official website, entergy.com, and our official customer portal, myentergy.com, to conduct business.

cash transaction app scams: don’t try to pay your entergy bill through third-party cash transaction apps like cash app, venmo or zelle. to review our authorized payment methods, visit myentergy.com/s/makepayment.

fake caller id displays: don’t rely on caller id displays; criminals can falsify them to disguise themselves as entergy representatives. always confirm an unknown caller’s identity through independent verification.

threats to disconnect: beware of threats to disconnect your utility service if you don’t provide immediate payment. we never demand immediate payment or cut off service without considerable advance warning.

false overpayment scams: beware of scammers who claim they want to give you a “refund" for an alleged entergy bill overpayment. use verified channels like myentergy, or contact us directly, to confirm the status of your account.

while far less common, in-person scammers often claim they need access to your property to provide repairs, offer free inspections or restore power first following an outage or disconnect in exchange for an upfront payment.

entergy arkansas will never demand or accept payment to restore your power, and we will call you or provide written notice if we need to access your property. if you are uncertain, contact us directly to verify whether an entergy service representative should be on-site.

if you fall victim to a scam, report it to entergy arkansas, your bank or financial institution and the proper authorities, including the local police, state attorney general’s office, better business bureau or ftc. document all details, such as receipts, names, websites, phone numbers or email addresses, associated with the crime.

entergy is proud member of united utilities against scams, a consortium of more than 150 u.s. and canadian electric, water and natural gas utilities and their respective trade associations that are dedicated to combating utility imposter scams.

with the assistance of customer reports, uuas has helped disconnect more than 14,020 toll-free numbers that scammers used to target utility customers.

visit <a 14 nov 2023 08:32:00 -0600entergy arkansas offers tips for keeping fall safe, fun
taking a few precautions can help you avoid accidents and injuries

the seasonal transition to fall is a time that many anticipate all year long—bringing sweater weather, scents of pumpkin spice, bright lights of the state fair and trick-or-treating, just to name a few. this time of year can also bring opportunities for customers to tackle home improvement or landscaping projects. as fun and gratifying as these activities can be, no one wants them to result in an accident or injury. entergy arkansas has some helpful tips for staying safe throughout the season.

keep safety first with home projects

fall is a great time to tidy up and prep your property for winter. when cleaning up fallen leaves and branches or trimming trees, always use caution and be aware of overhead lines. position your ladder away from overhead wires, so trimmings will not fall onto power lines. if this happens, always assume downed wires are energized and call 1-800-entergy for help.

if your fall spruce-up includes digging up flower beds, trees or shrubs, remember to call before you dig. calling 811 before you dig will keep you safe and prevent disruption of utility services to your neighborhood.

when performing maintenance activities that require a ladder inside or out, be sure to wear proper footwear, position the ladder on a flat surface, and have someone nearby to spot you.

keep the season safe, not scary

children look forward to the halloween season and all the fun it brings: wearing costumes, enjoying candy and attending fall festivals and carnivals. the american academy of pediatrics offers tips to help children celebrate safely.

prepare to welcome trick-or-treaters to your home safely by checking outdoor lights and making sure walkways and steps are well-lighted and free of any tripping hazards. for outside use, only three-wire grounded extension cords should be used. use rubber gaskets in light sockets or hang sockets downward to keep water out and remember to turn outside lights and decorations off when you are away from home or asleep. help children learn about safety with videos, activities and other resources.

daylight saving time ends november 5

when daylight saving time ends on sunday, nov. 5, fewer hours of daylight will make it harder to see children going to and from the school bus in the mornings and evenings. when driving, avoid distractions and watch for children in the neighborhood. the national association for pupil transportation offers additional tips for ensuring children arrive to and from school safely.

when setting your clocks to fall back an hour, take the time to check the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. all homes should contain a carbon monoxide detector to help identify the colorless and odorless gas that can cause serious illness or death.

stay cozy with these indoor tips

candles add a warm ambience to an autumn evening, but remember it is never safe to leave candles burning unattended. a small sputter or an errant flame can cause a fire in an instant.

space heaters should only be used with caution. they are large consumers of energy and a fire hazard and should be kept at least three feet away from draperies, rugs and furniture. additionally, homeowners who use a gas or electric furnace should schedule an appointment for service by a certified technician to make sure it is safe for operation and for greatest efficiency.

a wood-burning stove or fireplace can add warmth and coziness to a room but should also be used with caution and proper preparation. have your chimney cleaned by a professional before the first fire is lit. fallen leaves, animal nests and other debris can cause the smoke to vent into your home rather than outside and cause a fire.

remember to replace dirty air filters inside and remove debris from the unit outside to ensure your hvac unit works efficiently through all seasons.

hurricane season lasts through november 30, so it is important to not let your guard down when the weather begins to cool. prepare now for severe weather that may 15 aug 2023 08:31:00 -0500august 11 is "811 day" – reminder to call before you dig
811 protects you and the community. stay safe by knowing where utility lines are buried

little rock, ark. – entergy arkansas is reminding customers to call 811 before doing any digging in the ground. august 11 (8/11) is designated as “call before you dig day,” and the company is reminding homeowners and professional contractors to use the free 811 service before digging to reduce the risk of striking an underground utility or gas line.

“the safety of our customers is always our top priority,” said michael considine, entergy arkansas’ vice president of reliability. “august 11 is the perfect time to remind everyone to take the extra step and call 811 before any digging project, large or small. making that call is important to avoid service interruptions and, most of all, personal injury or worse.”

the depth of underground utility lines varies and there may be multiple utility lines in one common area. the risk of striking underground utility lines exists even when digging only a few inches.

entergy arkansas hopes august 11 will serve as an important reminder to all people who excavate or dig to call 811 at least two full business days before digging to have the approximate location of their utility lines marked. this process helps prevent injuries, property damage and inconvenient utility outages.

after you make the call to 811, professional locators mark the approximate locations of underground lines at the requested digging site with flags, paint or both. markings show the location of underground lines and help prevent undesired consequences such as injury, service disruptions or costly fines and repair costs.

“regardless of what you plan to do, how deep you plan to dig or even if you’ve called before for a similar project, every job requires a call first,” said considine. “not only is it the safe thing to do, but it’s also the law.”

calling 811 before you dig helps prevent serious consequences that could occur from digging without knowing what’s below the surface – not only now, but year-round.

if you suspect utility damage of any kind, leave the area immediately and call 1-800-entergy (1-800-368-3749) or call 911. a gas leak could be occurring if you smell the distinctive natural gas odor, hear a hissing or whistling sound near a gas appliance or see dead vegetation or bubbles near a gas line.

for more information, visit our website: <a arkansas customers who need help paying their summer utility bills can apply now for up to $475 through the low-income home energy assistance program (liheap). the program’s application period runs today through sept. 30, officials said, or until funds are expended.

liheap is funded through several federal programs and is designed to lower the energy cost burden by paying benefits for home energy bills for low-income households, who pay a higher proportion of household income for home energy costs. bill assistance is available for all utilities, with an online application available for most entergy arkansas customers, based on which community action agency serves them. applications can also be made in person at local community-based organizations.

in arkansas, the arkansas department of energy & environment manages the program, but applications for assistance must be made through a community-based organization. eligibility is determined by household size and 10 jul 2023 14:08:00 -0500entergy arkansas crews working to restore power quickly, safely
more than 2,000 employees working to restore power in hardest-hit areas of the state

little rock, ark. – a line of storms sunday evening brought lightning strikes and damaging winds into the state and interrupted service to over 62,000 customers in several entergy arkansas communities -- locations that were battered just last week, as well as other more widespread areas. since that time, more than 30,000 customers have been restored, and many are expected to have power by 10 p.m. tonight.

gusts of over 70 miles per hour were measured in some areas where transmission and distribution lines, poles, transformers and substations sustained damages from the storms themselves, but mainly from trees falling into power lines.

crews have been on the ground and in the air since dawn assessing damages and making major repairs to energize the greatest number of customers. about 2,000 workers have been activated for storm duty, and we have requested additional resources and equipment from neighboring states to assist with restoring power as quickly and safely as possible. however, some areas with more severe or hard to access damage from the extreme weather conditions may not be restored for several days and we will continue to update estimated restoration times as damages become known.

according to entergy’s weather experts, the presence of vastly different pressure systems has resulted in an unusually strong and persistent weather pattern over the southern united states this spring. these types of patterns occur from time to time when contradicting pressures – in this case cold from the pacific ocean and warm from the gulf of mexico – happen at the same time. currently, the pattern is “locked" over our area, causing frequent severe storms as well as the intense heat wave forecast for this week.

wind reports to the national weather service on sunday measured as much as 76 mph in lonoke, 70 mph in the north little rock area and 60 mph near jonesboro, similar to an f0-f1 tornado. damages in some areas are extensive and estimated restoration times may change as crews assess the damage and work to restore power safely. estimated restoration times for each service area are listed below.

entergy arkansas is launching “kids to college,” a my529 child savings account program to help families plan and save for their children’s higher education, with a pledge to match up to $100,000 for qualified customers.

research shows that opening a college savings account statistically improves college-going rates for students, regardless of the contribution amount and the level of household income. even with savings of less than $500, a child is 25% more likely to enroll in college and 64% more likely to graduate than a child with no savings, according to a study from the center for social development at washington university in st. louis (wustl).

“kids to college is an investment in the future of our young people and the future of arkansas,” said laura landreaux, entergy arkansas president and ceo. “we’ve been a leader in helping advance education and workforce development in the state for decades and are excited to be extending that legacy by launching this program for all of entergy here in arkansas. it will help ensure our children have an equal chance at achieving their dreams.”

powered by entergy and in partnership with the each child under 16 in the household in a kids to college my529 account. kids to college match participants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

family is an entergy customer.

family has an annual income at or below $60,000 for single-earner households and $80,000 for dual-earner households.

entergy is powering kids to college by dedicating
