hurricane ida daily news conference – 9/4/21

09/04/2021

six days after hurricane ida made landfall, entergy has restored 282,000 of the more than 900,000 louisiana customers who lost power due to the storm and now has estimated restoration times for all customers. substantial progress has been made this week in the areas of assessment, repair to facilities and restoration of power to critical customers, large industrial customers, homes and businesses. six of the eight major transmission lines that serve the greater new orleans area are now in service. with the backbone of the grid—transmission lines and substations—stable, we can now focus more on the distribution portion of the grid: the lines, poles, crossarms, transformers and other equipment that delivers power to homes and businesses.

on friday, in cooperation with the louisiana state police, the u.s. coast guard, the governor’s office of homeland security, jefferson parish and various other emergency response organizations, entergy began clearing the downed conductor in the mississippi river near avondale through a controlled detonation with a specialized outside vendor. we continue to work to clear any obstruction and anticipate the river will be fully open on september 4.

damage is 97% assessed in southeast louisiana, but continues in those hardest-hit portions of southeast louisiana. while we have restoration times for these and all areas, some of these estimates could change as we complete our assessments and continue with restoration work. we will continue to update to these estimates as we learn more.
