entergy texas recently presented a $20,000 donation to the southeast texas food bank as part of its commitment to supporting organizations making a difference in southeast texas. the southeast texas food bank partners with over 130 non-profit agencies and schools in jefferson, orange, hardin, jasper, newton, polk, sabine, and tyler counties, and is a key partner in entergy’s efforts to improve the communities we serve.

the covid-19 pandemic, an active 2020 hurricane season, and winter storm uri created a number of hardships for our communities. in many cases, food banks like the southeast texas food bank are there to help those in need. entergy’s contribution will help the food bank continue to support residents and prepare for a potentially active hurricane season this year.

food and first aid supplies are top of the list when it comes to hurricane recovery for food banks, but volunteers are vital in making sure those items get distributed to the communities.

“thank you for taking interest in everything that goes on at the southeast texas food bank," said barbara newhouse, president and ceo of southeast texas food bank. “your volunteerism means everything to us.”

programs that the food bank offers include the backpack program which provides kid-friendly, healthy meals to qualifying schools in jasper, jefferson, newton, orange, polk, sabine, and tyler counties and delivers to 30 schools that serves over 1,200 children and the senior food box program that provides free monthly boxes of food to seniors who are 60 and older and who economically qualify for the program. they also offer nutrition education classes.
