entergy texas employees didn’t just go green for earth day this year. they went orange and black as well.

entergy sponsored the shangri la botanical gardens and nature center’s annual eco-fest celebration, which funded the purchase of 1,500 monarch butterflies. the butterflies were released in orange during the april 22 event.

entergy engineering assistant andrea richardson, who served as the event manager, said the effort will help restore the dwindling monarch butterfly population, which has been threatened because of widespread pesticide use, habitat loss (sometimes due to storms) and changes in the global climate.

sr. customer service specialist sharon davis releases a monarch butterfly.

in addition to sponsoring the butterfly release, entergy volunteers had a booth and spoke with the public and customers about entergy’s energy efficiency and home weatherization programs. customers also were encouraged to go green with paperless billing and to download the entergy app for quick access to their accounts.

“i love that the event is situated in the beautiful shangri la botanical gardens where children and families are encouraged to experience nature at its finest,” richardson said. “i also enjoyed talking to and interacting with the families that attended.
